The successful candidate will support the Payroll & Systems Manager with the provision of the full payroll service for the Trust working effectively with the external payroll provider. This role is a full time role - working term time only +5days.

The purpose of the role:

To process payroll ensuring that staff are paid accurately and correct payments are made and appropriate information is communicated to the payroll bureau services, pension providers, HMRC and other pension scheme bodies. To manage HR systems under the direction of the Payroll and Systems Manager ensuring all information on the HR system is up to date and accurate. To provide cover for the Payroll & Systems Manager in their absence and support HR colleagues on request.

Key Accountabilities of the role:

  • Under the direction of the Payroll & Systems Manager, provide the full payroll service for the Trust and liaise with the payroll provider ensuring that staff are paid accurately and on time adhering to internal as well as payroll provider’s deadlines.
  • Notify the payroll provider of any changes to terms and conditions, new starters, resignations/leavers, sick pay and maternity/parental/adoption leave pay entitlements
  • Issue maternity/paternity/adoption paperwork
  • Ensure that maternity/paternity and adoption leave days are correctly paid
  • Deal with all queries relating to payroll
  • Issue changes to terms and conditions and fixed term contract extension letters
  • Support the Payroll and Systems Manager with checking monthly payroll
  • Inform the pension provider of all new starters
  • Process pension opt out paperwork
  • Support the Payroll and Systems Manager with the maintenance of the HR system ensuring that all data held in the system is accurate
  • Support the Payroll and Systems Manager with the implementation and roll out of the HR self-service

Key Experience and Knowledge for the role:

  • Educated to GCSE Level A*-C or equivalent in English and Maths
  • A Levels or equivalent required
  • CIPP Certificate in Payroll
  • Good knowledge of payroll legislation
  • An understanding of pension provisions and auto-enrolment
  • A proven track record of working in a centralised Payroll function in a medium sized organisation
  • Good knowledge of Data Protection legislation
  • Good knowledge of IT systems
  • An understanding of terms and conditions of employment in schools would be desirable
